An extension of ‘Frozen 2’ mythos in Virtual Reality

As the Character Real-time Artist for this Virtual Reality short, I was responsible for creating the Look of all characters. This included optimizing them to run in Unreal Engine, real time VR, at 60 frames per second.

In the beginning of the short, the visual style is a familiar world and characters that you know from the film, ‘Frozen 2’. The story then proceeds to envelope you into a stylized extension of the ‘Frozen 2’ mythos.

Premiered at the November 2019 “Frozen 2 Red Carpet Premiere” at the El Capitan theater in Hollywood, CA.

Master shader (human hair) example

This is a master hair shader that I created for the humans in ‘Myth’. It uses a single four channel texture for six of the input’s needed in the shader. The only other texture is an rgb normal map for the tangent input.

Each human character uses an ‘instance’ of this master shader with needed attributes exposed to interactively adjust aspects of the look such as colorTip, colorBase, translucency, etc.

Instance of the master hair shader

Each human character had an Instance of the master hair shader like the one seen at the left. This instance has exposed parameter controls to interactively dial in a unique hair look for each character. You can see the exposed parameters and their values.
